Renault announces pricing and specification for the Twingo GT and updated Dynamique S.

Renault has announced pricing and UK specification for the new Twingo GT, the sporty version of the innovative city car that was unveiled at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed. In showrooms from 1st December, the Twingo GT is priced at £13,755 on-the-road.
A revised version of the Dynamique S launches alongside the GT, priced from £12,205 on-the-road and also goes on sale from the start of next month.
The arrival of the GT adds a new dimension to the award-winning Twingo range, offering drivers a city car with added va va voom. Compared to its rivals, the GT offers high levels of driver enjoyment at a very competitive price.
Developed by Renault Sport, the GT builds on the Twingo’s strengths. Cool, nimble and agile, the award-winning Twingo presents an innovative take on the city car. 

Its rear-engined, rear-wheel-drive layout maximises interior space and it is incredibly easy to park, manoeuvre or complete a U-turn because the turning arc of the front wheels is not restricted by the engine. Twingo comes as standard as a five-door – the most popular body style with city car buyers – and its appeal is heightened with a huge range of colour, trim and personalisation options so that buyers can create the exact look they want.
Renault’s wild Twin’Run concept provided inspiration for the new GT. Unveiled at the Monaco Grand Prix in 2013, Twin’Run celebrated the brand’s sporting spirit and paid homage to the legendary Renault 5 Turbo and Clio V6. A real racing car with a mid-engine 320hp V6 based on that of the Mégane Trophy racer, the Twin’Run provided a preview of the style of the latest generation Twingo.
The Twin’Run’s influence is most obvious in the GT’s 17-inch ‘Twin’Air’ diamond-cut alloy wheels and also extends to the lateral air intake, the rear bumper diffuser – redesigned to incorporate the twin exhaust pipe – and the Renault Sport markings on the side and rear of the car.
Renault Sport optimised Twingo’s rear-engine design to deliver high levels of driver enjoyment. The Twingo’s layout presented the manufacturer’s motorsport division with a challenge as it has become accustomed to front-wheel drive models over the last 20 years, but Renault Sport’s extensive development has resulted in the GT being perfectly balanced with a fun drive and levels of performance that are close to the previous generation Twingo Renault Sport 133.
Starting with the 898cc TCe engine – the most powerful in the Twingo range – Renault Sport’s engine designers tuned it to produce 110hp and 170Nm of torque in the GT. A modified turbocharger, uprated fuel pump, revised engine mapping and a specially-designed, freer-flowing twin silencer exhaust have contributed to the significant increase in power and torque.
To feed the turbocharger with cold air and to take advantage of its faster rotational speed, a distinctive new air intake on the rear left-hand wing has replaced the Twingo’s standard air intake that is located above the wheel arch. This modification is essential in improving engine performance, since it reduces the temperature of air entering the turbocharger by 12 per cent. Combined with an upper section duct, this dynamic intake also helps increase the flow rate of combustive air by 23 per cent.
As with the flow of the fuel pump, that of the water pump has also been uprated to improve cooling of the powertrain.
The engine work sees the GT cover 0-62mph in 9.6 seconds and pick-up is amongst the best in class with 50-75mph taking less than nine seconds. It boasts an excellent power-to-weight ratio of 110hp per ton.
New ratios ensure the GT’s five-speed manual gearbox is perfectly suited to the much enhanced performance and aid the sporty feel, while Renault Sport has used its development work from the Mégane Renault Sport to optimise the mapping of the accelerator pedal. This mapping delivers lively acceleration with rapid throttle response and when the driver lifts off the accelerator, the dynamic settings limit the feeling of inertia. This caters for the driver’s needs, while at the same time improving driving pleasure and comfort.
To go with the GT’s immense manoeuvrability, which includes an impressive turning circle of only 8.59 metres, and to complement its performance, Renault Sport finely tuned its chassis to provide precise and enjoyable handling. Stiffer shock absorbers, a larger diameter anti-roll bar and a ride height that is 20mm lower than the normal Twingo bless the GT with precise and responsive handling. The Twin‘Run’s 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels – fitted with Yokohama BluEarth tyres – add to the GT’s driving dynamics and purposeful stance.
Additionally, Renault Sport has recalibrated the ESC system to improve traction during sporty driving and to take into account the new characteristics of the chassis and tyres. This allows a very slight drift when drivers hit the throttle on exiting a tight corner before the system kicks in to correct the trajectory, all without a dramatic loss of speed and with no detriment to safety.
The Twingo GT comes with variable ratio power-assisted steering.Firm around the centre position, it has several characteristics depending on the speed and type of corner, combining steering precision and handling. For example, you need to turn the steering wheel 18-degrees in order to turn the wheels 1-degree on the motorway, compared with 13-degrees on city-centre roads.
Coupled with the chassis changes, the advanced steering and recalibrated ESC system work to instil a great deal of confidence in drivers. Similar to Twingo II Renault Sport, Twingo GT’s body-roll control enables higher cornering speeds to be achieved with a sense of ease and comfort.
While the GT is designed to be a driver’s car, comfort and safety are equally important. To this end, included in the GT’s equipment are such features as the R&GO application that turns a smartphone into a touchscreen including sat-nav via an in-app purchase. In addition, standard features include ABS, Emergency Brake Assist (EBA), Hill Start Assist (HSA), speed limiter and cruise control.
The GT’s specification blends sportiness with luxury. As standard, it offers automatic climate control, automatic lights and front wipers, fog lights with cornering function and rear parking sensors.
Exterior features include extra tinted rear windows and a body kit that consists of side skirts, extended wheel arches and rear diffuser. Setting off the GT’s distinctive look is the new i.d Blaze Orange metallic paint or a choice of Crystal White, Lunar Grey or Diamond Black body colours. All of the shades have optional contrasting NACA aircraft-inspired stripes, which echo the aerodynamic form of the famous air intakes. Starting on the bonnet and extending the length of the roof, the stripes are another nod to Twin’Run. The stripes are black on the Blaze Orange paintwork and orange on the other bodywork colours. There is also a contrasting Sport exterior touch pack that adds orange or black detailing to the front grille, side door strips, door mirrors and rear spoiler.
Inside, the colour scheme echoes the exterior. Orange trim details feature on the part-leather upholstery, the air vents and the base of the gear lever. Grey touches to the interior surround the dashboard, air vents and steering wheel. Twingo GT also has Renault Sport-badged door sills, aluminium pedals and a Sport gear lever knob.
As with the rest of the Twingo range, the GT offers the opportunity for further individualisation. Options include GT roof and bonnet decals, an electric panoramic fabric folding sunroof, lane departure warning system, heated front seats and the Techno Pack with R-Link multimedia system that incorporates 7-inch touchscreen/TomTom®LIVE navigation/USB and Bluetooth® connectivity, voice control and reverse parking camera and sensors.
The launch of the sporty city car strengthens Renault’s GT range. The Twingo GT sits alongside the Mégane GT that was introduced in the summer and which was also developed by Renault Sport. Both cars combine the practicality and usability of Renault’s original designs with Renault Sport’s engineering expertise.
Introduced alongside the GT is the new Twingo Dynamique S. Replacing the previous version, the latest Dynamique S benefits from a raft of exterior and interior enhancements, and is available to order from 1stDecember priced from £12,205 on-the-road.
As with the GT, the Dynamique S is available with new Renault i.d Blaze Orange metallic paint as well as Lunar Grey, Diamond Black or Crystal White body colours. Subject to body colour, there is also the same contrasting Sport exterior touch pack as on the GT. A Sport decal and 16-inch Sport diamond-cut alloys complete the stylish exterior.
Inside, the Dynamique S mirrors the interior of the GT, incorporating such features as aluminium pedals, Sport part-leather upholstery, grey interior touch pack, Sport gear lever knob and orange interior personalisation.
Dynamique S customers can also specify the GT’s body kit, extra tinted rear windows, automatic lights and front wipers, fog lights with cornering function and rear parking sensors amongst the available options.
All versions are covered by Renault’s four year warranty. The car is protected for four years or 100,000 miles (first two years have no mileage limit). There is also a three-year paint warranty and 12 years’ cover against corrosion.
