Purpose

I will try my best to provide detailed info on various cars and what is like to live with them, I have already produced a few for Jaguar-car-forums, I will do my best to be unbiased, but it will be hard for some cars. I will re-produce press releases and copy from other motoring news.

Record number of new cars to launch at Goodwood Festival of Speed

Following the great success over the past three years of the annual Goodwood Moving Motor Show (MMS), presented by RAC Cars, the 2013 event (Thursday 11 July) is shaping up to be the biggest yet, with a record number of world and UK new car debuts from manufacturers as diverse as Dacia and Rolls-Royce.

The MMS is a ‘dynamic’ new passenger car exhibition and is held within the grounds of Goodwood Park as a significant addition to the annual Festival of Speed (12-14 July).  The MMS is being presented for the first time this year by RAC Cars, the RAC’s new website for the safer way to buy used cars.

Twenty new car manufacturers will be participating in the 2013 MMS, including the following marques, with known UK or world debuts identified in brackets.

  • Abarth
  • Audi (RS6)
  • BMW
  • Citroen
  • Dacia (Sandero)
  • Ferrari
  • Ford (Fiesta ST)
  • Honda
  • Hyundai (ix35 Hydrogen Fuel Cell)
  • Lexus (New IS)
  • Mercedes-Benz (CLA)
  • Nissan (370Z Nismo, Juke R Nismo)
  • Peugeot (2008)
  • Porsche (Cayman, Panamera E Hybrid)
  • Renault (Captur, Zoe)
  • Rolls-Royce (Wraith)
  • SEAT (Ibiza Cupra, Leon SC)
  • Skoda (Octavia RS world debut)
  • Toyota
  • Volvo (Revised S60, V60 Plug-in Hybrid, V70, XC60, etc)

MMS has already established itself as the annual British Motor Show, and is now an important and regular addition to the Festival of Speed each summer, giving new car buyers the unique opportunity to enjoy an exclusive motor show preview day.   Not only will they be able to see the very latest new car models on display, but in some cases also climb aboard and experience the vehicles first-hand, strictly at the prior invitation of the participating manufacturers.  The cars will undertake hundreds of runs on a special evaluation route that includes the world famous Goodwood hillclimb, following in the wheel tracks of celebrated racing drivers from Sir Stirling Moss to Sebastian Vettel.

The Festival of Speed has grown to become Britain’s largest annual automotive exhibition, attracting in excess of 185,000 visitors in 2012.  Building on this, the Festival has increasingly been used by vehicle companies to debut important new models – with over 35 appearing for the very first time in the UK in 2012.  Additionally, the FoS-TECH technology zone offers manufacturers an opportunity to present their latest environmentally-considerate concepts.

The Supercar Run and First Glance have become a key attraction at the Festival, enabling manufacturers to showcase their latest exotica in action.  For this year, expect to see the dynamic world public debuts of the McLaren P1, Vencer Sarthe, Alfa Romeo 4C, Toyota GT86 Roadster, Range Rover Sport, VUHL 05, along with many, many more.

All visitors to the 2013 Moving Motor Show, presented by RAC Cars, will also be able to gain free access to the expanded Goodwood Aviation Exhibition, re-located this year next to the MMS, along with all of the other event attractions with Goodwood Park, including the Cartier ‘Style et Luxe’ concours d’elegance, the F1 and motorcycle paddocks, the Supercar paddock, and much more.

As part of its activity at the Goodwood Moving Motor Show and the Festival of Speed celebrations, the RAC has partnered with motor manufacturer Ariel to launch a competition where one lucky member of the public will drive away one of the most exciting cars of the 21st century – a British-built supercharged Ariel Atom 3.5, worth over £34,000. Ariel and the RAC will have a total of three RAC branded cars at Goodwood; one inside the MMS, one on the main RAC stand and one racing up the Festival hillclimb. For more information and to enter, visit www.rac.co.uk/win-an-atom before 31 August 2013.
